10 Facts about the Trucking Industry

The Trucking Industry keeps America afloat. It transports food, medical supplies, manufacturing supplies, and just about every other thing you could think of. You share the roads with these rigs constantly, but do you ever stop and think about them? Here's some facts you probably didn't know.

  1. Truckers, on average, spend up to 240 nights a year away from their families. They are on the road, keeping America running and earning a good living. 
  2. Commercial Trucks have engines that last around 5 times as long as a regular automobile. These engines can withstand up to 1 million miles.
  3. The trucking industry employs more than 8 million people in the United States! 
  4. The EPA has slashed emissions over 90% in the trucking industry in the last twenty years or so. So, the trucking industry is trying to do it’s part for the environment.
  5. TRUCKERS NEED MORE TIME TO STOP! In fact, they need about 40% more stopping time than a car. Keep this in mind when changing a lane quickly or trying to get through traffic. Better for everyone to be safe.
  6. Less than 10% percent of truckers are women. While this is an very small number, it is growing. Our company is currently working on advancing this, as are many companies around the US.
  7. The trucking industry makes up about 12% of all the registered automobiles.
  8. There are enough trucks to pile on top of each other and make it to the moon. The number is over 16 million trucks in case you were wondering, and there are over 3.5 million active trucks.
  9. The trucking industry increases in volume and demand every year. This is despite a large shortage of drivers. If you’re interested in driving a truck, now is the time to get started!
  10. The trucking industry as a whole  travels nearly 300 billion miles, or 651,000 roundtrips to the moon per year on average.
